Review for the Jaton A&V-803 Loudspeakers
By: Michael Kingery

Review Equipment.
Aragon 18K Pre-amp with a Penny & Giles Potentiometer.
Adcom GFA - 5500 Power Amp with 200 Watts per channel at 8 ohms.
Esoteric X-O3SE CD/SACD Player.

Unboxed - Realwood with ultra high gloss finish.
45.5" Tall with Base Stand. 10" Wide X 14.5" Deep.
Base Stand - 15.75" Wide X 14.5" Long.
2" Thick tapering to .75" on the edge.
Mounting Cones - 2" Tall.
Dual Binding Post Connections for Bi - Amping.
Drivers Per Cabinet
4" X 4" Semi Horn Loaded Ribbon Tweeter.
1 - 5" Midrange.
2 - 8" Woofers.

First thing I have to say is the cabinet finish is Stunning. Looks like the finish you would find
on Exotic sports cars. Next thing is there has some assembly on the base stands. Four Allen
screws per base with four cones that screw into the bottom of the speaker. All hardware is
included. Assembly is Very Easy.
Set Up - Speakers were placed about 7' apart and 4' from the wall. I used 10 ga. wires with
GLS locking banana plugs to connect from the amp to the speakers. Then a conditioning disk
was running in repeat mode for the entire afternoon.
Now down to serious Listening
I figured what better way to start is with Weather Report - Heavy weather on SACD.
Cymbals came out very crisp and clear. The Drum sticks rapping on the edge of the snare
Drum blended in just perfect. The Bass was fast and precise with No Overhang. Woofers
stop on a dime. Keys just flowed out with Fineness. Saxophones came out as if it was being
played right in front you. Tambourine and Congas were working in harmony. From Top to
Bottom the A&V - 803s sound is right on the Money. Just what you would expect from a
Loud Speaker of this Caliber. Imaging is Great. Drivers blend together very nice with no
gaps in Frequency Response. Now moving on to some vocals. I left that up to Marvin Gaye
- Midnight Love in SACD. Wow the vocals just poured out like a Smooth Running Stream
of Soul.
I decided to see just how well the A&V -803s would fill an even Larger Room.
So I was allowed to use conference room E. at Circus Circus Las Vegas where I work to
preview them there. Size of the room was about 25' X 35'. Then set up the speakers about
9' apart and about 5' from the back wall. I did bring a 15" subwoofer along just in case.
Got it all up and running with the Conditioning Disk ran a couple times. With the High
Efficiency of these speakers they had "No Problem" filling the Larger Room with wonderful
sound. I blended the subwoofer in way down at the bottom end from about 50 cycles on
down. Me and some friends enjoyed beautiful sound from the A&V -803s until 3:30 am in
the morning.
I will have to say and everyone there would have to agree that the A&V - 803 speakers are another
fine example of Jaton’s.
